Wow, been a while...

Hmm I think I ought to dig something out of my archives and put it in here. People might have thought I got a life or something. Oh, Wait, Yes I did.

Still I should find something to post.

Let the console wars begin anew...

Okay, I FINALLY have an update...

So I was cruising around at my favorite local thrift store looking for untold treasures, and there it was. A old SEGA Master System controller. Out of nostalgia I bought it. Out of boredom... I mod it. Enter in the Apple Front Row Remote. I use it everyday to control iTunes on my music server in my office. Now I've seen lots of mods for Nintendo Entertainment Systems (NES) but never anything for a Master System. At first I thought this would work out perfectly; there are 6 buttons on both the Apple Remote and Master System controller. Without a lot of detail, here is the break down of my process.

The Master System and Apple remotes side by side.

Cracking open the controller.

It's extremely simple on the inside. It was necessary to remove some of the inside structure of the bottom half. Nothing was compromised, it was just very cramped for space and room needed to be made to fit the Apple remote components

Even more simple are the parts inside. This is a good thing. Because there are only wires and pressure pads it makes everything just a simple rewire at the terminal ends.

By comparison you can see the complexity of the Apple remote.

The IR LED is going to be moved to the hole where the original cable came out. The metal leads for the battery are also going to be removed.

And this is what I have left to work with.

I de-soldered the terminals and wires leaving the PCB boards completely flat.

These are the new wire leads for the LED, battery, and buttons

A very straight forward rewire later, and you can see where I repositioned the battery and IR LED.

It's beautiful. Very clean, very simple. My kind of mod. Oh and it works like a champ!

Until next time. ^_^ Laters.

Who's tunes...? iTunes.

So it’s my first real post dedicated to my blog. I was helping my new room mate move out of his old apartment and into my own, he said I could use his 20” DELL monitor till he asked for it back. I’ve ended up buying it and putting it to some excellent use. I’m going to dispense with the step by step and let the pictures do most of the talking… I keep all of my music across several hard drives connected to my Mac Mini. I love a nice clean look to mods or set ups.

This is a slightly older set up, but still similar to what I have been using.

Here is the space prepped for the move.

The new DELL 20" LCD.

The hard drives and other bits I may or may not use

Working on placement.

I used zip ties to hold the panel in place.

I had to make a custom bungee cord to hold the screen in place.

And the glamor shots...

This Beginning Is Not Necessarily The End...

So. I have this predicament. I've recently graduated with my AS degree in graphic design. I'm recently divorced as well (just over a year at this point.) I'm done with school and nobody is waiting for me at home except for my lazy dog. Pretty much all I do these days is work, come home, and sit at my computer for hours on end, napping on occasion as well. To put it at it's least, I get boo koo bored. When I get bored my ADHD kicks in and I find ways to entertain myself. I have decided to share these adventures with the wide world of the internet.

I deal alot with modding. Taking something and changing it to what I perceive it to be. I've been in the Apple Computer modding community for years over at MacMod.com. You'll find me there under macDeviant if you ever want to say hi. But if you are already here, why don't you just say it... here? I plan to use this blog to post my creations both of new and of old. Not all of my mods have to do with Apple products, or computers even. I don't plan on updating this blog religiously, so don't expect it. If you are reading this, it only means you are along for the ride.
